
William Edward Toney 64, of Indianapolis, died Oct. 2, 2009. He was born in Beech Grove, the son of Burnard E. and Wilda(Prosser) Toney, on March 24, 1945, both whom have preceded him in death. William had a long career in civil engineering starting out as a draftsman at Citizen's Gas, and continued as a surveyor with Kirby Brother's Surveying and lastly retiring in 2008 as an inspector for Infrastructure Engineering. William attended elementary schools from Indianapolis to California, and graduated from Emmrich Manual High School in 1964, and also attended the Lane Technical Institute for Drafting. His hobbies included Civil War re-enactments with the 38th Indiana Infantry and 1st Wisconsin Light Artillery Batt. "B" and was honored to be named Captain of the Unit for several years. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and an instructor for the National Muzzle-Loaders Association. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann (Parker) Toney; children, Terri Ni Toney; fiancé, Jack Cottey, Jr. and Julie Ann Toney-Bowman, husband Andrew; grandchildren, Anna Lee Bowman, Tia Elizabeth Bowman, Taylor Nathan Toney; sister, Marilyn (John) Bullens; many nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Washington Park East. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 6, 2009. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Light the Night Walk" co Dr. Hemichandra Venkatesh,his nurses and staff at Community Hospital South, benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
