I just learned of "Mo"s death today.
Bob Mohler was the quietest member of the group of Manual guys who played cards at Jack and Ron Palladay's home on most Friday and Saturday nights. He helped wear the hole in their living room rug as we raked our poker pots of nickels and dimes back and forth thinking we were great poker players. His card playing problem was that he almost never bet and when he did everyone knew he had a great hand, so we folded our cards quickly.
In August of 1964 Bob along with Dave Coughlan, Jack Palladay, Danny Eaton and me enlisted in the Air Force.
Bob was a very laid-back guy. During basic he was not inclined to learn how to do an about face, a basic military move. Finally, the Drill Sergeant left him alone on the drill pad and told him "Airman, if you can't do an about face when we return I will set you back a week of Basic Training!" Off the flight marched leaving Bob alone to finally get serious about doing a simple about face. When we returned Bob of course had learned the maneuver and he stayed with our flight throughout the rest of Basic Training.
Once there were five and now just one.
Today I will lift a cold beer to those four guys!. R.I.P. Dave, Jack, Danny, and Bob.
